Postage formats
Depending on the measurements and weight of your postal items, they will be defined as one of three main formats: ‘Letter’, ‘Large Letter’, or ‘Packet’. Each of these formats carries a different cost. There is also a special ‘A3 Packet’ format which is only available for certain contract services.
Letter
A letter is an item which is:
- no larger than 240mm x 165mm
- no thicker than 5mm and
- weigh no more than 100g
Large Letter
Large Letters are items which are:
- no larger than 353mm x 250mm
- no thicker than 25mm and
- weigh no more than 750g
A3 Packet (Mailsort 1400 only)
A3 packet-sized items are:
- larger than Large Letter sizes but no larger than 420mm x 297mm
- no thicker than 25mm and
- weigh no more than 750g
Packet
Packets are items which exceed any one of the following dimensions:
- 353mm long
- 250mm wide
- or are thicker than 25mm
- Rectangular maximum: 610mm x 460mm x 460mm
- tubular or cylindrical packages, have a maximum length of 900mm. In addition, the tube/cylinder length when added to twice the diameter must not exceed 1,040mm
